What arises in us is the sense that “I owe it to the world.” Frightening circumstances in the world call upon something deep inside us. No matter the depth of my own fears, there is something in me that wants to be counted on the side of life over death, enhancing life as opposed to contributing to the collapse and destruction, whether by acting or not acting — since not acting is an act.
