Why does this feel like an orgy of self-cherishing?
This is an unpleasant thing to say, but you guys are implicitly presenting yourselves as exemplars of a certain way of life…
And that everything has to be assimilated into this “spiritualized” self-help sentimentality…
Surely we must do better? You guys simply do not sound at all equal to your claims. Which, given the subject, seems irresponsible.

Thanks for sharing your perspective. It sounds as if our conversation didn’t resonate for you and I appreciate your explanation of why. I would challenge your criticism that we are putting forth any kind ideal in an authoritative way. In fact, this conversation is one of a series in which we continually challenged ourselves and each other to go beyond our comfort zones. That’s what I value about the best of my dialogues with Andrew. We also contemplate the evolution of contemporary spirituality, and note that this is no longer an age of gurus. Andrew and I both agreed that this seems to be a time for collaboration, for spiritual friendship, and for experiments in awakened democratic intersubjectivity. And we can always grow further beyond narcissism, so I’m sure there’s some truth in your critique too. Just far less than what’s more generally prevalent, IMO. Kind regards, Terry

To put it another way… You guys are talking about the incarnation of the ideal. I think we can all agree that in that regard we have a very long way to go. What honestly troubles me is the sounding of all these false notes. I’m sorry to be so pointed, but you guys are taking on a lot of responsibility in discussing these subjects in the way that you do, and something just feels wrong.
